Rivalry with a Heart Pep Rally
Time: 4 to 6 p.m.
Location: Western Gateway Park, Downtown Des Moines, IA Corner of Locust and 12th Ave. (Where our trailer is located for Des Moines Arts Festival)
Des Moines-area Cyclones and Hawkeyes can help the hungry and enjoy a downtown happy hour at this first-ever event. Jointly sponsored by the Iowa State and University of Iowa Alumni Associations, Des Moines-area businesses and alumni are encouraged to team up on National Hunger Day to provide donations for the Food Bank of Iowa as part of a friendly competition to see which school can collect the most.
The food drive will culminate at the pep rally, which will feature the Iowa Craft Beer Tent, grilled food for purchase from Hy-Vee, giveaways, live music, and appearances from both schools’ band, spirit squad, and mascots. Merchandise from the Iowa State University Book Store and Iowa Hawk Shop will be available for purchase. A brief program will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Cost is free to attend, but please bring non-perishable food for the Iowa Food Bank. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank of Iowa can provide four meals.
Join us in Des Moines on Sept. 8 as we celebrate the spirit of the Cy-Hawk rivalry–as well as our state’s generous spirit of giving!
